Italy : The contribution of inclusive education to the implementation of the UN CRPD - 2007-12-16

The University of Bologna hosted the 2nd regional seminar AIFO and DPI Italia organized, together with the Italian NGO EducAid on October 12 and 13. The seminar was a lecture of the Master course on 'the educational dimension in development cooperation' and focussed on article 24 of the UN Convention of the rights of persons with disabilities on education.
Speakers included representatives of the Italian Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Public Education, UNICEF, academics of the universities of Bologna and Florence, NGOs and DPOs. The first session included the introduction to the UN Convention and the presentation of best practices and methodologies to which followed a roundtable discussing various approaches, at national and international levels, on inclusive education.
Main objective of the training seminar was to raise awareness on this new international tool and illustrate participants elements which could be used in their work. Participants included: master and Ph.D students, representatives of DPOs and NGOs, Interregional Observatory on development Cooperation of Regions, Local Authorities, Municipality of Bologna, specialized portals, social cooperatives.
